Hull and deck components of the Columbia 30 are vacuum resin-infused, cored construction with vinylester/E-glass layups and carbon fiber reinforcements. Vacuum resin-infusion provides a more consistent laminate (which means a stronger part) with a lower resin to fiber ratio (which means a lighter, stronger part – by as much as 60%). Cores are computer cut to precise dimensions to ensure consistency.

You'll notice that the bilge of your Columbia 30 is unpainted.
The first reason for this is that paint is excess weight
that you don't need in the bilge. Second, the unpainted
bilge allows you to inspect the structure as needed. Finally,
we're so proud of the laminate that frankly we cringe at
the thought of painting the bilge. Other builders often
feel that they have to.
